Meet The Home Upgraders

Since 2010, Fargo Monthly has been bringing you positive, community stories and resources and we’ve loved every minute of it.

Now, Fargo Monthly magazine is known as Meet Fargo, but don’t worry—we’re still going to have all of the great content you’ve come to love Fargo Monthly for, however, we are changing our approach ever so slightly. Our new concept will be more people-focused. We always hear feedback that the people are what makes the Fargo-Moorhead community great (which we agree with). So, we decided, why not meet them?

This month, we will kick off our first true effort to do so with our home upgraders issue. This is not a comprehensive issue so if there’s someone you would like to see featured in the future, please reach out to [email protected].

Meet Mosaic Interior Design

Paige Breidenbach is the owner of Mosaic Interior Design, a company specializing in residential and commercial interior design serving the Fargo-Moorhead area and its surroundings. Taking the helm in February 2023, after working in multiple roles at Mosaic, Paige holds dual roles as the principal interior designer and project manager, bringing her creative vision and organizational expertise to every project.

“My mom was a designer, my great aunt was a designer, and my grandma did some decorating,” Paige said. “So I was always around it.”

Outside of her professional work, Paige cherishes quality time with her family, friends, and significant other. She enjoys playing the piano, drawing, and baking. Paige is also deeply committed to Fargo-Moorhead and regularly volunteers her time for the Parade of Gingerbread Homes for the Friends of the Children non-profit organization.

How Can I Help Upgrade Your Home

Key Services I Provide

“My top two services start with our 90-minute consultation. It’s a one-time, in-home consultation where I come in to help clients who have ideas but need an expert opinion before making decisions. It’s a flat $300 fee for 90 minutes. During that time, I’ll review paint colors, furniture arrangements, or any design ideas they’re considering and offer advice. For example, I might suggest a wall covering, recommend swapping a loveseat for two accent chairs, or just confirm their ideas to give them confidence. This service doesn’t include follow-up work like sourcing products or detailed planning—it’s really about offering guidance on the spot. It’s not the most popular option since many people prefer to have us handle everything, but it’s a great choice for those who enjoy doing the work themselves.”

“Another service we offer, which I don’t see a lot of designers doing, is project management. This is especially useful for projects that require contractors, like installing new flooring, painting walls, or updating plumbing or countertops. Essentially, I manage everything for the client. Instead of them hiring and coordinating multiple contractors, I handle all of it. I schedule the work, create timelines, and ensure the process is as smooth as possible. Clients receive one invoice from me, covering everything, so they don’t have to juggle payments to multiple people. I also work exclusively with contractors I trust—those who consistently deliver high-quality results.”

How Paige Creates A Successful Project

Establish A Budget
“Establishing a budget is critical, but it’s just as important to include a buffer. We work hard to stay as close to the budget as possible, but it’s not always realistic. For example, if the budget is $100,000, we gather estimates and come in around $97,000. That’s great—until contractors start working and notice unexpected issues, or there are additions to the scope. Things like this happen all the time. Having a buffer helps maintain surprises and alleviates financial stress when adjustments are needed. The size of the buffer depends on the project scope, but a good rule is to set your stated budget $5,000–$15,000 lower than what you’re truly prepared to spend. This way, you’re ready for any changes or additions that come up. While we always do our best to stick to the budget and explore alternatives to keep costs down, having a buffer makes the process smoother and more manageable for everyone involved.”

Timeline
“Setting realistic timeline expectations is just as important as budgeting. We always aim to complete projects by the client’s desired deadline, but the reality is that things can shift. Timelines are interconnected—one contractor’s delay can affect everyone else. Scheduling contractors requires aligning their availability, and unexpected changes like emergencies, sick days, or additions to the project can cause delays. I recommend including a grace period of 2–4 weeks for completion. For instance, if the target is August 1, finishing by mid-to-late August is still a success in this industry. My relationships with trusted contractors help prioritize projects, but clients should understand that some flexibility is needed. Communication is key here, and I always keep clients informed about progress, changes, or delays to ensure they feel involved and confident throughout the process.”

Know What You Want
“Knowing exactly what you want and finalizing all the details before starting a project is crucial. Many people are eager to jump in, thinking a project like a bathroom refresh is straightforward, but they don’t realize how many decisions and steps are involved. For instance, even with something seemingly simple like a new countertop, you need to consider the thickness, whether you want a backsplash, the sink style, the faucet type, and more.”

Perks Of Working With Me!

“Design has been in my family for quite some time now. Some might say I am a ‘Third Generation Designer”. My love for design began at a young age and has only grown over the years. Leading into my professional career, I have had experience with assisting my own family with projects, while also working with some of the best designers in Fargo. My experiences I truly believe set me apart from other designers, from the knowledge I have obtained to the unmatched growth I have had over the years.”

“Working with clients offers a unique opportunity to form connections with those who you may never would have otherwise. It is an honor to be hired by such incredible people who put their trust in our expertise. At Mosaic, we prioritize our clients and put their needs first. No matter the type of project, location or budget, we pride ourselves on being accommodating and fair, while always exceeding their expectations.”

A Common Error To Avoid When Upgrading Your Home

Not Being Space-Aware
“Size is a huge concern when it comes to furniture placement. People often love big furniture, but their space might not accommodate it. Floor plans and space planning are critical to ensure the furniture fits well and functions as intended.”
