For Brittany Hines, 2025 has been a year of milestones: a clean bill of health, a wedding and the winning design in Coweta County’s bicentennial logo contest.
A nurse practitioner by profession and self-taught designer by passion, Hines moved to Newnan from Sarasota, Fla., in December 2023.
When she heard about the county’s plans to mark its 200th anniversary, she decided to submit a design that reflected both the community’s heritage and its future.
“I’ve always been creative and a little competitive,” Hines said with a laugh. “I thought it would be neat to give a fresh perspective of what Coweta was, what it is now and where it’s going.”
When Hines began sketching ideas, she researched the county’s history and the symbols that defined its character.
“The courthouse felt like the heart of it all,” she said. “That building represents the foundation of Coweta County.”
She wanted the logo to capture more than just architecture.
“Even though development has changed things, agriculture is still our roots,” she said. “I kept the tones earthy and simple, something that feels timeless but still modern.”
Hines moved to Coweta less than two years ago and works three days a week at Piedmont Urgent Care as a nurse practitioner.
On her days off, she designs logos and T-shirts for small businesses, a creative outlet that balances her demanding medical career.
“I’ve always been artistic,” she said. “Even as a kid, I was winning art contests. It’s something that’s just always been there.”
She’s also found a sense of belonging in her new home and in her new marriage.
Hines met her husband, Nathan, in early 2023 through a college football Facebook group.
“He’s an Ohio State fan, and I’m a Florida Gators fan,” she said with a laugh. “The smack talk started, and now we’re married.”
Nathan grew up in Newnan, and Hines credits him with helping her fall in love with the area.
“When I first visited, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, this is like a little Savannah,’” she said. “I fell in love with the charm of downtown Newnan and the feeling that you can drive five minutes and be out in the country again.”
The past year has brought profound change. Last holiday season, Hines was battling throat cancer. Today, she’s cancer-free and newly married.
“Last year was hard,” she said. “But when you come that close to death, you start seeing life differently. You live a little more. You take chances. This contest, getting married, being healthy; it all feels like a new beginning.”
Hines and her husband are now settling into life in Coweta, where she says she feels fully embraced.
“Newnan has opened its arms to me,” she said. “It’s serendipitous; the timing, the people, everything. I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
As Coweta celebrates its bicentennial, Hines’ design will serve as the county’s official mark, a reminder of the place she now calls home.
“I just wanted to create something simple, meaningful and true to this community,” she said. “This place already feels like home, and now, in a way, I get to be part of its history.”
