Post-graduation plans: Jillian will join Worldwide Golf’s creative team as a Graphic Designer in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jillian will help support the design and development of digital and print materials that align with the brand’s nationwide presence in the golf industry.

How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University gave me the tools, experience and confidence to succeed in the creative field. Through hands-on classes, access to industry-standard software, and opportunities to work with HPU Athletics, I was able to build a diverse portfolio and grow my skills in real-world settings. The support from professors and the chance to work alongside professionals helped me discover my strengths and prepare for a career I’m passionate about.”

Have you used Career and Professional Development? “Yes, I’ve used the Career & Professional Development Office throughout my time at HPU, and they were an incredible resource. They helped me create and refine my resume and cover letter, ensured my LinkedIn profile was up to date, and provided valuable support when preparing for job interviews. Their guidance gave me the confidence and tools to present myself professionally and stand out to employers.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “One of the most impactful mentors I had at HPU was Janis Dougherty, Instructor of Visual Arts. She pushed me to grow not only as a designer but also as a professional, constantly challenging me to think critically and creatively. Professor Dougherty’s support, honest feedback, and belief in my potential made a huge difference in shaping my confidence and career path.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of the most impactful moments I had at HPU was working on the sidelines for a women’s lacrosse game as part of the athletic creative team. It was the first time I saw my graphics and photography used in a live setting, and it made everything I’d learned feel real and meaningful. That experience confirmed I was on the right path and gave me the confidence to pursue a career in sports design.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring campus created an environment that constantly motivated me to strive for excellence. Being surrounded by innovative spaces, passionate faculty, and driven peers encouraged me to stay focused on my goals and take full advantage of every opportunity. The atmosphere made me feel like success was not only possible—it was expected, and that mindset has been key to my growth.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop essential life skills like time management, adaptability, and effective communication. Balancing rigorous coursework with internships and creative roles taught me how to stay organized and thrive under pressure. Most importantly, I learned how to present myself professionally and confidently in any setting—skills that have been key to my success beyond the classroom.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “HPU’s campus fostered values like integrity, resilience and a strong work ethic that I’ll carry with me after graduation. Being part of a community that emphasized personal growth and professional excellence taught me to hold myself to high standards in everything I do. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the workplace, I’ve learned the importance of showing up prepared, staying driven, and always leading with character.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Take advantage of every opportunity—whether it’s an internship, campus job, or class project—because each one helps you grow and build your portfolio. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback and make connections early. The more proactive and involved you are now, the more prepared and confident you’ll be after graduation.”
