Troy University’s online graphic design program has been ranked first in the nation by Forbes Advisor.

A division of Forbes magazine, Forbes Advisor recently issued a ranking of the top 10 accredited, nonprofit universities that offer an online graphic design program.

Using the categories of credibility, affordability, student outcomes, student experience and the application process, TROY’s program ranked the highest.

“This achievement not only underscores TROY’s commitment to academic excellence, it also highlights its leadership in shaping the future of digital creativity,” said Dr. Kerry Palmer, Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “By blending innovation with rigorous education, Troy University empowers students to excel in the dynamic field of graphic design, preparing them to make meaningful contributions in today’s digital world.”

The degree program was offered online for the first time at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.

The program core consists of 41 credits and includes studies in motion graphics, typography, user interface, concept and process and the business of art and design. Students must complete a client-focused design studio course and a thesis exhibition showcasing their original work and research.

“Our curriculum is intentionally modeled after the design industry, and we offer a variety of courses that are intended to assist students to transition smoothly into a competitive field,” said Greg Skaggs, Chair of the Department of Art and Design. “These are supported by a strong core of foundational courses rooted in traditional design principles. Thus far, results have been exceptional.

“We’re extremely proud of this achievement, and are especially thankful for our Admissions and Student Services team who work very closely with each individual student to ensure great personalized attention is given during their academic journey.”

The graphic design program is completely asynchronous and gives students the freedom and flexibility to work remotely from any location at times convenient to their lifestyle. Faculty are available to assist during scheduled office hours and use Teams to host live sessions to engage in real time.

“Our faculty are composed of award-winning, industry-experts who have been helping define the design field for decades and have made significant contributions in their own respect,” said Assistant Chair and Associate Professor Chris Stagl. “Along with a strong adjunct-core, nearly all of our traditional Troy-based faculty teach in the online program as well, bringing their expectations and rigor to students worldwide. Our students’ successes can be seen in their outstanding portfolios, accolades and job opportunities. While we are still a young program online, we’re positioned to make a significant impact globally with our incredible faculty, curriculum, and design students.”
